With browsers phasing out Unity webplayer and eventually Flash, and only 30% of mobile devices having WebGL capability, what options do you guys use for publishing games? Companies tell me that they don’t want WebGL because it isn’t compatible enough, and they don’t want webplayer because it was dropped by Chrome, and of course PC download is out for most of them because they want cross-platform compatibility. Many of them consider Flash to still be the best format, but Unity no longer exports to Flash. A few want games using HTML5 canvas, but Unity doesn’t export for that format either. It seems like we’re in a particularly tough spot right now, unless you can succeed in the hopelessly crowded native mobile app market.
Pre-release crowdfunding is a possibility for PC-standalone games, but it’s also an unpredictable lottery.
All the platforms that Unity publishes too makes this a non-issue.
Which of those platforms have actually brought you any money?
