What programs do I need for creating 3D / 2D models & textures?

Hey guys.

I have finally come to the conclusion that even though i prefer to code, I need to learn how to do a bit of modelling. SO, what programs do you use?
More accurate, which programs do you use for 3D modelling such as characters and animation, and which do you use for 2D modelling such as UI and menu screens (as the login page on world of warcraft as an example)

  • Thanks!

For 3D modelling, here are some suggestions:

  • If you have the budget, get a subscription for one of the big tools such as Maya (expensive).

  • Otherwise, if you have the time to learn a relatively complex but powerful interface, use Blender (free).

  • Otherwise, if you’re on a Mac, consider Cheetah3D. It’s fairly inexpensive and easier to use than Blender.

For 2D:

  • If you have the budget, consider Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Free alternatives include Inkscape (Illustrator workalike), Gimp, or Paint.net.

Or make friends with artists.

3d:
Blender, Maya, 3dsmax, etc.
2d:
Photoshop, Gimp, Manga/Clip Studio, Substance Designer, Substance Painter, etc.

Everybody else has stated good answers, i’ll just like to add that krita can be included for texturing.
