Uhm, I suppose this might look like a strange question, but do you have suggestions for a screen recorder (possibly free)? I know there are many of them, but I don’t use one since ages, thus I’m not sure what to choose.
I just want to record my actions on the screen, to make a demo of the usage of a Unity plugin (a visual editor for HOTween)
Thanks a nice day
Daniele
Commercially I would recommend FRAPS for in-game recording, Camtasia for application recording.
Free, there is CamStudio, UltraVNC and Windows Media Encoder of varying stripes of capability.
Google is great at answering these kinds of questions far better than a Unity developer forum.
Ahaha, thanks Justin, I knew I’d get Google-scolded
But last time I recorded something (ages ago) I ended up using a different program each time, because in spite of reviews etc. I was never truly satisfied. Thus now I though I might try my luck in here instead than on Google.
Anyway, I’ll check all those you mentioned, thanks
(in that distant past I used Camtasia, but my license is now very old)
Try the trail version of Camtasia Studio if your version has expired. I use Camtasia for demo recording and such. Works like a charm for the most part.
@Bula: Hey thank you, I’m gonna check that out too, though I think I’m already sold on Camtasia Studio (that was quick!).
@JustinLloyd: Oh, now you made all my Camtasia Studio memories come back - it was definitely the best, those ages ago.
I’m getting the trial, and I think I’ll end sticking with it.
The things is that with expression encoder you can record as much as you want but with a brake of 10 min every time…(what I mean there is no days limit)
But basicaly any tutorial or anything should be just 10 minutes (cause you will get bored)
Anyway…I am just saying…If you want to go to Camtasi go ahead
Microsoft Expression Encoder is the best I know so far.
Hey Bula thanks for the additional info. I just finished a recording with Camtasia Studio, but now you got me interested again in Expression Encoder. Will definitely look into it
Here is a tutorial that is saying how to set it up perfectly
However as I said is going to have a maximum of 10 minutes every video.
Have fun
@Bula: thanks again. Though I noticed that it doesn’t support many types of captions. I tried recording my voice, but ended up using all sorts of balloons for my demo/tutorial, bot because my microphone sucks, than because I’m Italian, and hearing my on playback was like listening one of the Sopranos talking about my plugin
Camtasia Studio was quite good with captions. But I’ll definitely try Expression Encoder too, as soon as I get a better mic and a better pronunciation
