Hey, I can only choose one of these two laptops, so which one is the best one, for gaming and using unity to it’s fullest extend? For example, bake lighting times, etc.
Thanks!

For game development it’s almost always going to be the one with the fastest processor, but for gaming it’s going to depend on the games you want to play. Some games are processor heavy, some games are graphics heavy, etc.
Between the two laptops you showed the one that is worth the money is the second. It has a much faster processor (i7-8750H vs i7-7700HQ) and higher video memory (4GB vs 3GB) in exchange for slightly weaker graphics performance (GTX 1050 Ti vs 1060).
That being said you’re holding yourself back by choosing ASUS and BestBuy. Below is a link to an HP Omen. It’s slightly more expensive but it has the faster processor of the second laptop (i7-8750H) with the faster graphics of the first laptop (GTX 1060) and even more video memory (6GB). It’s the better deal.

Current version of Unity is CPU baking only, I would not go with a laptop at all but a powerful desktop, for example 2700x or a Threadripper, though a threadripper can be less optimal for gaming because of memory latency.
A 8700k also has pretty good multi core performance, though only sex cores. Only slightly better single core perf than a 2700x
I cannot imagine a scenario in which this is a bad thing.
I can imagine plenty, like allready mentioned light baking. Also engines are moving to multi core rendering, unity allready uses it even on DX11 just not very efficient just yet
Edit: haha sex multi core sex is the new hardcore sex
I thought that was n-way.
I’m surprised no one’s mentioned the screen size differences yet. Ergonomics is a big deal for productivity. I’ll gladly trade some performance to not feel cramped on a small screen.
Thanks a lot for your help, guys.
AndersMalmgren, the reason I need a laptop is because I’m always away from home and have a lot of free time watching my family store. But that is also very good advice!
Ryiah, I super appreciate it! That hp laptop does seems way better. I have another question. I found another laptop (Yes, on bestbuy again ), which is a dell laptop, have the same spec as the hp laptop you linked to me, but cost less. Compare to the hp laptop (and the two above), is this laptop worth it?
Yes. It has the same hardware as the HP.
My experience with Unity development has always been with an external monitor.
That’s even better. An external monitor is almost certainly less expensive than paying for a laptop with a larger screen. If @oryort is going to work mostly at the family store, it might be more cost effective to get a laptop with a smaller screen, and hook it up to a bigger external monitor at the store. In this case, a smaller laptop would be easier to lug around, too.
Once again, thanks a lot, Ryiah!
TonyLi, that’s a great idea hahh. I’ll also look into getting an external monitor to hook it up at the store at a not so distant future.
