What the H** Unity?

“Machine Identification is Invalid for current license.”
“You must delete the license file and then activate a new license on the current machine”.

Absolutely trash error message, that does nothing.

All I did was change my timezone to the correct timezone after a fresh windows install and I get this. I’ve tried everything I’ve read, disabled network adapters, etc. I’ve even reinstalled windows again.

How do you not have an official / concrete way of dealing with this by now (and I mean one that doesn’t require a 2 month wait)? I’ve been using Unity since 2008, and I’ve had this happen multiple times over the years… Seriously, how have you still not figured this out?

I have over $5000 in assets from the asset store and years of work now unusable. My only options appear to be: wait 2 months for support to reply (not a joke, that’s the current backlog), buy a new laptop, or port to unreal. None of those are even remotely a satisfactory option. Thanks Unity, after 15 years maybe it is time to move on.

Seems like you reached the right conclusion

Aren’t you able to return your license somewhere under the organization tab of the account site?

https://id.unity.com/en/organizations

Did you try return the license via Unity Hub? (click your account icon, top-left corner, choose Manage Licenses)

I had a similar problem, today, even when I’ve just paid Unity Plus monthly renewal fee, Unity Hub app couldn’t sync licenses, and won’t let me open any project…

I resolved activating manually following this guide https://support.unity.com/hc/en-us/articles/4401914348436-How-can-I-manually-activate-my-license-inside-the-Hub-

And using the serial assigned to my seat (in organizations/manage seats at Unity ID site)

I agree this is heartbreaking, I have also several years of Unity plus subscription (since 2017) and hundred of assets to see that just a bug in the hub or any fault in hub/editor sync process with unity and you cant even open your projects…

Is there an offline solution for these moments?

others have had license issues with 3.6 hub… *well there’s been issues with previous hub versions too : /

but, try to downgrade hub

If you have a personal license, like me, the only option is using an older version of Unity Hub, which Unity will not make available for download; which means users have to find it on their own exposing them to the risks associated with that. What a shitty thing to do.

The amount of malevolence Unity has toward it’s personal users is astonishing (as demonstrated by the mounting forum posts for this issue over the years, and for which Unity refuses to acknowledge and take responsibility for). If you have another license, you can activate offline/contact support/etc. But what about the users that have bought assets on the asset store? Spent years developing projects and have heavily invested in the platform? just cut them off? make them wait 2 or more months to get support? Download possibly virus infected old versions to get around the issue?

I assume the intension, given that this isn’t a recent or isolated incident, is to frustrate personal user so they leave or upgrade. Unity, you need to honor your commitments and not try to underhandly cut people off. This is really a shitty underhanded thing to do and a big red flag.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Thanks a lot for the link to the old version.

Is there any news on this? Can I safely upgrade to 3.7.0? So far I keep pressing Dismiss when the Hub prompts for an update.

My pc has not been online in months, terrified of losing everything once i return it. These kinds of things just rarely have failsafes for edge cases like mine, (most people are always online), and from what i have been reading, unity has problems both with this and 2fa, which i never instituted.
