I often scan the forums (especially Scripting) to see if there are any newbies there I can help out.
If a post has no replies, I’ll read it, and often can help. But if it has a couple of replies, there’s no easy way to tell from scanning the topic list whether it’s solved or not. Sometimes the very first reply solves it (and often, the second post amounts to “that did it, thanks”). In that case, I’ve wasted my time by going into the thread. But other times, the first couple of posts have not solved it, so if I skip that thread, I may be missing out on an opportunity to help somebody.
So! What would really be helpful is if there were some little button or link the OP could click to indicate that they consider their issue solved. This would show up as a green checkmark or some such in the topic list. Then, when scanning, we can easily see which threads we can safely skip, and which ones we might want to look at more closely.
Cheers,
- Joe
P.S. Also, we could really use a “meta” forum, where suggestions about the forum (like this one and that one) could be posted!
