What tool should I use for this simple Graphics?

hello there,

Nice to meet you all. My first message in the forum. I’m learning the Unity workflow, and have to say I’m very pleased with this software, at least one powerful piece of software for people whose hobby is Game Developing.
Anyway, the thing is, My projects are focused on 3D, but for the GUI and other aspects of the game I’d like to use some simple sprites. For the game items I have in mind simple sprites like these:

I need advice about this. What software would be useful for creating this kind of simple graphics?

Thanks in advance

Depends on your knowledge, preferences and budget.

I do pixelart like this (if I have to - it’s really hard work) in Photoshop. But that’s mainly because I am very acustomed to the program for years now. For free you can use “The Gimp”. If you prefer something commercial but not TOO expensive I can recommend Corel Paint Shop Pro - it’s how I got into digital art.

But really most every art program that supports to save out in a file format with tranaprency/alpha can do this. Probably even Windows Paintbrush. You just need a lot of patience and a feel for how to fit detail in a limited pixel space. That’s all.

For reference have a look at the olöd SNES/sega Genesis games.

Good luck

Cosmigo Pro Motion 6. Best tool for pixel art.

Use Graphics Gale. It was specifically made for pixel art. Nothing else really compares to. You can whip out quite a bit of art in a short span of time and it even has a few more complex features like alphas, making gifs, color modes, palettes. The downside is that it really isn’t for anything except pixel art.

Seconded. Never used Graphics Gale myself, but known a lot of pixel artists who swore by it.

There’s also Deluxe Paint (don’t laugh! it’s still awesome no matter how old it is).

There’s still a way to get DPaint??? Where?

I friggin’ loved DPaint on the Amiga500. My first Graphics Program EVER! we are talking about that Particular DPaint aren’t we?

This one?

Yep, there will only ever be ONE DPaint! (well ok… six, or seven if you include all the versions that came out, lol).

Anyway yeah, the Amiga versions are abandonware now. The PC version I’m not so sure about, Dan Silva probably still works on it, lol. But you can get an open source “clone” http://www.memecode.com/image.php but I dunno if it’s any good.

DPaint was awesome!

I remember running it on my 486 with the -slomouse switch, because the 486 and 24 megs of ram was to powerful and the mouse pointer whipped around the screen like I thoroughbred on truck stop crank.

Graphics Gale and Photoshop was where I made my sprites in. Why does Cosmigo Pro Motion 6 remind me of GG?

Haha, those were the days!

Graphics gale was the tool I used about 2 years back to start pixel art.

Really good, simple to use and I know there are a few tuts out there you could follow
