I believe I saw something posted about the Mono version a while ago, but I haven’t been able to locate the post.
What version of Mono is currently in use, and are there going to be any updates when Unity 2.6 is released?
It seems like Mono 2.0 has introduced a number of improvement and new features, and they’re up to 2.4 at this time.
One such item … Performance Counters Implementation
"Mono now has a performance counters implementation that can be used to monitor various statistics of Mono processes. To access this API you use the System.Diagnostics.PerformanceCounter classes.
Currently the counters can only be read from the same process, there is no setup to share across processes."
2.6 is slated to have a profiler built into it. If they have built it using this functionality then I dare say there might be an update to the mono implementation.
Unity 2.5 is Mono 1.2.5
Would guess that all Unity 2.x will remain on Mono 1.2.5 as the exchange and resulting testing will take many many months to ensure all works correctly, especially as many of Unity’s own things base on it too. Additionally the JS compiler will potentially need some work to work with the new mono as well as it is a UT developed language.
For a profiler you don’t need a new mono version, as Unity iPhone shows Its no problem to call a start and an end function and output the time spent inbetween commonly and thats what a profiler does.
As all functions are called through reflection and invocation, unity knows exactly when a function is beeing called and returns.
Also, on OSX you can already profile it thanks to OSXs development instruments
Hello. I don’t know well MacOS systems, we are only using Unity3D and MonoDevelop, so could You tell us what development tools You are talking about? We really need to boost performance of our application and a profiler would be appreciated. And since we don’t know when Unity 2.6 would be released we need to find some other tools. Best regards.
