What was the point behind Alphabet (abc.xyz). They were working so smoothly, that sudden change is weird. And what can be the good/bad effects of that on android and Game Dev. Will everything like wallet,play store,android be operated as products of ‘different companies’ and whole will be owing Alphabet the. And will Google just become a search engine.
Google was getting too big. It had an extremely wide range of technological fields under its roof. But really, Google best known for their search engine. So from my understanding they modularized their company. Google is now mainly the search engine side( I believe also with most of their web based services), and other branches are now separate legal entities own by Alphabet.
Personally, I believe this was done as preparation for the launch of things like the Google Self-driving car and an increased involvement with the military under Boston Dynamics, both with a higher risk than a website. One good thing about this is, if Google Cars destroy the Earth, since they’re a separate legal entity, we can not sue and win assets from the search engine side, only from the company that now makes Google Cars. It’s a form of legal protection and fault diversification.
Edit: I expect this change to be completely a legal side change. Day to day operations and general company structure will remain largely the same, some executive titles will change, for example each branch being diversified will probably now take their leads and have them as CEOs.

There have only been about 14 accidents involving Google’s self driving car in a six year period. You can read about them in the reports on Google’s site. None of them involved a death.

Also it’s worth noting that none of them were the fault of the self-driving car. Primarily involved the car being rearended.

Maybe I read a paper on April 1st. Hmm, I can’t track down a source either, but I distinctly remember an entire article on it. The story went that two executives were waiting to be picked up the vehicle, as the car approached, it came too close and never decelerated, one executive backed away and the “confident” one even shot him a look of disappointment in his lack of trust. Then he was plowed over. Am I going crazy?
My superpowers of hindsight and/or confirmation bias say this type of detail sounds made up. I mean, I back away from large moving things even when I’m confident they’ll stop in time, so that alone wouldn’t be deserving of a “look of disappointment”.
Sounds like a good movie plot but no, that sounds absurd there have been no deaths.
