What was your first game about?

What was your first game about? (Don’t have to be Unity, it could be any engine) My first game was a tank game

Text game in basic on zx-spectrum :roll_eyes: Something about landing on the moon.

Later I got a china console with battle city and my mama liked it. She played it with me deep in the night. I wanted sleep, because I have to go in the school next day and she said to me: don’t sleep, kill the tanks. Also I don’t like tank games :hushed:

The first time I ever tried to make a game, it was in a flash program when I was younger. It was like The Impossible Quiz. Then I tried some sprites and made a tiny little Mortal Kombat Sub Zero Mythology type game. Actually released first games would be Buggin me on the Android store. Essentially it’s a tap this and not that game. I wanted to try and make something simple that all ages could play.

My first game that wasn’t Tic Tac Toe or anything similar in scope was probably a space shooter I created in qbasic that barely ran. Something about shooting at flying pieces of pizza, as I recall.

It was a monster maze game written into a school text book in ZX81 basic by hand using the manual to look up how to write the code… Don’t think it ever worked, or maybe the ZX81 ran out of memory!?

There were so many games. The very first video game I think was a plane flying across the screen bombing things below. That was about 35 years ago now. I was actually heavy into text adventures in the beginning but I dabbled in both so which was first I do not know now.

For my first Unity game project I chose something I thought would be pretty easy and fun… a game based on Operation Wolf. A mouse shooter.

I also still have a video of my last game project in C# & XNA. I wanted to get back into using digitized graphics. Figured I could make a sort of MK / Rastan style game using the boys and myself as the characters. lol

I used to always have fun messing around working on games. Not so much any more.

Canyon Diver. You pilot a diving craft deep into the earth, avoiding walls, and for no adequately explained reason, monsters throwing rocks. PET/VIC

my first game was a pong clone, i made it using the xna from microsoft.

I started my first game two months ago. So, please don’t delete the thread until I return sometime in 2027 and write a reply with cool looking screen shots :sunglasses:

I vaguely recall some form of text base battleships built on QBasic. You are asking me to go back a lot of years.

I also recall being kicked out of computers class in high school for playing a point and click game I’d built. The school had a strict no games policy.

I think it was a side scroller shooter in game maker. I called it speedy, game took place over sea that scrolled rificously fast. If you flew the ship low enough water splah sprites were created lol. Shooting made bullet casings out the ship.

Before that I’m not sure, just little tests and such.

My first game was in basic for DOS

The game i make was like you launch a rocked to space then you have to avoid getting hit by incoming meteor

My first interest in computers came from seeing someone’s name in a long row down the side of a ZX Spectrum screen in WH Smiths… Soon I had my name up there, then I discovered the joy of the semi colon on a print statement and went one better and filled the screen with my name. Not content, I soon added for loops to change the number of spaces to bounce my name left and right.

Then I discovered you could define your own character set and decided to do a game. I’d write my code on paper (I can’t recall if I bought a book on programming basic or just read the store copies), then type it into the Spectrum in WH Smiths at school lunchtimes, saving to cassette. Not much later I had a frogger clone that I’d load in the local stores that had a tape deck on their demo machines every lunchtime, hopefully saving people a few coins they would have spent in the local arcades.

It had road and log sections and my collision detection was basically testing if the frog was moving into a ‘space’ or another character code. I think it even had procedural level generation (I’m a bit fuzzy on details after all these years!) by having a random number of spaces between vehicles when making my strings.

The following christmas I got my own ZX Spectrum and I’ve been spending a lot of time with computers ever since :slight_smile:
