What would happen?
Trying this as a last resort before switching to learning UE4 with my free time.
And do you think Unity would allow you to still pay the $1500 once you mad atleast that much before trying to sue you?

the non-commercial student license is water marked with “For educational use only” so you probably don’t want to do that. There is the commercial version for half the usual price but I’m guessing you don’t want that either. What do you need pro for anyways?
Unity is 100% free, with no restrictions on publishing. You don’t need Unity Pro; as the name implies, it’s for professionals (i.e., you’re making money with it). If you can’t make a game with Unity, then Unity Pro won’t help you.

I know your first question in the UE forums!
“What would happen if I made serious money with my UE4 game but didn’t bother to pay the 5% royalties?”
No watermark on this version: http://www.studica.com/uk/en/unity/unity-pro-5-game-development-software-student-commercial/u5-100135-1.html
5% is of no relevance and its worth nothing. I don’t care about 5% if I actually made money off UE4. The issue is not 5% infact I would be more than happy to give Unity 20% of what I would have made. In most cases 5% of nothing is still nothing and 5% of something is so tiny its charity.
If only they would allow the use of the Pro version for a small fee and a cut I won’t mind at all. Lack of pro features in Unity Free is a deal breaker as opposed to just using UE4
Why are almost all your questions about what will happen if you act unethically?
^ so I can atleast say I tried my best and gave it my all but was just not allowed to use Unity?
Better to try and fail than fail to try.
No.
Only if you never sell a product.
^ which is what most people will end up doing anyways. Anyways I see I am not getting through to fan boys here, no logic and blind defense to Unity but I can see why can’t blame you all.
Anyways instead of complaining I won’t waste my time here again will just use UE4, was $20 well worth it anyways. If I sell something I would give epic an extra few percent as charity anyways since 5% is too low for a almost free $10 million USD software that you can release commercial games and you don’t have to worry about this nonsense here with paying $1500 for a pro.
Thanks anyways all the best to you guys.
They don’t. They also don’t impose an IP tax. If you are a professional, the cost of Pro is easily justified. If you are not, you don need it. If you Unreal better suits your needs, use it.
Non-stop asking if it is ok to circumvent licenses/pirate software so you can publish and make money in no reality constitutes “trying”. It is the opposite. To make a game you need nothing more than a text editor and gimp/blender. If you want to “try”, then just start making games. Use Unity (free), or BGE, or Torque or whatever or pony up the cost for UE4. Since you haven’t even started yet, you are a very, very long way from even needing to worry about professional level tools.
^ I agree with you, worrying about x y and z is pointless at this stage.
I did buy UE4 for $20 and I have blender so thats about what I need. I will just spend a $500 USD on upgrading my PC to use UE4 which would be a far better trade off than a $1500 unity anyways.
So you are right on that I got all the info I need and I think I made the right choice with UE4. Thanks for all the help guys and best of luck to you all. This is my last post here.
I prefer UE4, but I won’t pretend that it is the only viable tool for game development.
You’re actually worrying of things that are most certainly unnecessary. You’re a student and still don’t know how to use neither Unity nor UE4, if I understand correctly. Which means that pretty surely you don’t need Unity Pro, and are just being attracted by the pretty lights for no reason. Also, think about the games you want to make. Are you sure UE4 (or Unity for what it’s worth) is the right engine for you?
Also, this. Come on. You get a software which has tons of features in the free version, and you’re saying you’re not “allowed to use Unity” because the Pro is not free also? I certainly am not a fan boy, but that’s a little over the top.
Indeed. We certainly don’t need yet another Unity vs. Unreal thread, and also we don’t need any “how can I get away with pirating Unity” threads, so I’m closing this.
