Whats happened to unity?

I ask whats happened to unity because its almost impossible to get a response for help in the forums these past few months. Unless its a particularly active asset store supplier.

Has every one gone over to that dreadful site discord?

I refuse to get involved with it as it seems like a bunch of people all shouting at the same time and completely bypasses the categorization offered in unity forums.

The very name elicits … well, discord.

Come back to unity, we forgive you.

It is beginning to negate the unity philosophy of being able to create a game just from the asset store when all the developers jump ship and move to that dreadful disintegration called discord.

Many assets require support even of the most basic level which is proving more impossible with every purchase I personally make and a final result moving further away rather than closer.

Say No To Drugs, No To Cigarettes and HELL NO, to Discord.

Or is it just me?

Awesome. psmsl.

Most of the unity discord’s issues could be solved if slow-mode was activated so people have to think before they speak and can’t spam endlessly.

I’m a visual thinker. It just looks like a mess to me. Probably spam to as you suggest but I cant bear to be there to be honest. For all things unity Im looking for harmony not discord. Who would call a site that. I dont want to think DISCORD. I think HARMONY. Maybe some of that positive thinking stuff is rubbing off on me?

I moved support issues for my space kit to Discord because it’s much easier to categorize and organize information there. With the forum, you’re stuck in one linear progression of information that mixes outdated technical info, marketing, support, jokes/offtopic, etc into one long spaghetti mess.

I use my forum thread for general communications that are relevant only around the time they are posted, such as updates and announcements. Otherwise it’s best to use a better tool.

Seems thats what everyone seems to do/think.

So I guess its just me but I still refuse to use it.

Discord’s not perfect by any means as a support platform. But the forum is not designed for the job at all. Do you find the forum easier to use in terms of looking up and finding relevant information?

On a side note, I have not had any trouble whatsoever with keeping discord under control. The people who have joined there are great, they are looking for help to understand/implement things and that’s what I give. I put an off-topic channel there but it’s hardly used.

I think it’s more a question of how you set the tone. Everything about my discord is set up to help people get things done with my product, and that’s the kind of people who end up there. It’s not a general discussion forum.

What are you talking about? I’m looking at your threads and I’m seeing responses to the majority of them. Some of them are even from Unity staff. Are there any specific examples that stand out that you can show us?

Absolutely. If your selling a car asset. I buy the asset, visit your related forum post. Search that post for any issues I may have. Search google for same. Then ask in the forum if I still need to. You respond or not. Its as simple as that.

But to be honest, Im not into visiting someone elses business and learning new ways all the time. I like to get things set in place. Do and then learn what I need too. With that in mind, when IO visit discord it does make me feel disconnected.

But like I say, Im not into other peoples businesses. Discord posts seem difficult to focus on in my view.

A forum is simple, in your face and… CLEANer.

Sure, its not dead, I realize that and yes I have gotten a lot of solutions and answers to issues I have had but over the past few months it seems many asset providers are turning their back on unity. I mean support.

I also understand that not all developers are in their own real business and it is really these people who I am speaking about.

I mainly deal with a few of the bigger developers such as: Enviro, Procedural Worlds, and a few others and yes I usually get answers within 3-4 days at most but because I know they will eventually respond I am patient and in no particular rush to get things done. When the response comes I turn back to the issue I was having, and this is fine.

But lately I have purchased a few assets that were created by developers that obviously have no interest in support or theyr’e just away from home or something.

I have also noticed that people are using discord a lot which I really don’t like and so I thought I would mention this here to see what people say.

It just seems to me that if you are looking for a better solution than the obvious unity forums which I find great people would be better off running support from their own website instead of that mess at discord.

But like I say above, I really don’t like discord and so asked this question to get other peoples opinions etc.

Thats all.

Also some people don’t have a forum post for their asset and provide an email and I write but never get a response.

I suppose at the end of the day, not all great developers are great business men. But agin thats natural.

Well it seems like a non issue based on posting history  Forums are functioning normally as free support.

Indeed, I know you to have solved a few issues I have had so many thanks for that. Very much appreciated.

Why is that?

I’d be hard pressed to find something more disconnected and difficult to focus than a standard forum. Discord is basically that plus the ability to organize into channels.

What you’ve only recently encountered is something that has always been this way. We’re constantly having developers show up with a new asset, provide support for a period of time, and then disappear. You have to be picky when buying a new asset and one of the things I always check is forum activity.

By the way, my issue is not with unity. Its with discord. Ironically a polar opposite.

It begins with the word. As mentioned the polar opposite of Unity. In that, I guess I like to remove negative words from my vocabulary. ie, war, famine, misery, ruin, disharmony, discord. and so on.

I find forums easy to navigate.
