In this thread my main point is not about the ultimate survival asset itself. It’s about the attitude to assets.
Some backgrounds:
The asset was removed 18 months ago by Unity due to receiving continuous complains about delaying. Anxious users complained why 0.2 version still not come out.
Just now I checked some survival templates, and no one is even close to ultimate survival.
It’s still a high quality asset when the asset is forced removed.
If it is not removed, I think 0.2 version should be ready by now.
I feel it is a loss for users who want to develop survival games. That’s why I ask who still remember this asset.
So who’s responsible for this? The anxious users or the developer who can’t work so efficient.
If you are looking for the Ultimate Survival asset on the unity asset store, it is currently down due to some clients sending complaints that it is no longer supported and doesn’t work.
This is because they were unhappy with delays with updates even though the version they purchased does actually work with Unity 2017.4
A group of people changed their 5 star reviews to 1 star because they didn’t get Multiplayer, Save Load and Swimming yet so that it would get removed from the asset store.
This is actually a new policy from Unity and they are deprecating Assets that are reported to no longer getting customer support. Unity deprecated it as they said people complained it was not being updated and that it was broken. Which is harsh as it had an update within the last year (better than other assets I have seen) and didn’t have any bugs stopping it working.
The developers Winterbyte had started to give copies of the beta version update however apparently it was being leaked from some people who received it. So now we have to wait for the developer to decide if he even wants to continue with the project. Well done people! This is why we cannot have nice things.
I find this unlikely, given that Unity’s official policy is all assets are sold as is, and there should not be any expectation of ongoing developer support. What you’re saying directly contradicts Unity’s own asset store TOS.
Most likely the developer got behind on improving the asset, didn’t get enough sales to justify the amount of work he/she was putting into it, and got tired of the complaining enough that he/she just said screw it and deprecated the asset instead.
