The title says it all! I’m curious to see what people’s favorite iOS mobile games are. Could be anything on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, spanning any category.
I’ll go first: Crossy Road. Spent way too much time mindlessly tapping and loving it lol.
None, as I don’t own, nor plan to own apple mobile devices anytime soon
Also I almost don’t play games on mobiles. Unless stuck somwhere withouth Internet and waiting for something. Or want to play two players on the same device with relatives or friends.
Bloons. and few others. Only in the arcade though. Been playing and building since the ipod. (and a little before that on PalmOS.). I play 1-2 hours day, about half of that is for funsies, the other half is comprec. (and then about 4-5 more hours of playing our games as part of development)
Hyper casual (asmr) games are VERY interesting… as a genre / phenomenon. (they are also fun to build… at least in a jam context). They have insane engagement times. I can’t stand them for more than one or two rounds. But fascinating what folks in certain demographics consider a “game”. I do enjoy old school casual/puzzle and love mobile mid-core.
On topic:
Dan The Man is a game I played every nook and cranny of when I was calling myself overall a gamer (not only on mobile of course). Grew up with 2D platformers and that’s a genre that transitions reasonably well to mobile.
Two other fun ones: Tongue King and Mario Run (unfortunate that Nintendo didn’t bring any more such games to ios/android It is the most expensive app I own but the price was visible in the polishing too ).
Edit: Oh and Fancy Pants, albeit that one did not quite reproduce the childhood memories of the flash games xD
Mini Motorways is fun on the phone, not sure if that counts as it’s also a PC game. It plays REALLY well on mobile though.
A lot of the Apple Arcade games are very well made, I haven’t played many but for other well made games I’ve played: Hearthstone, Clash Royale, Warcraft Rumble, Slay the Spire
Some great points, I feel like hyper casual is really a mobile-specific genre. Kind of goes hand-in-hand with picking up your phone while you’re board and have some time and messing around. Any more intense games are on PC / consoles.
Super interesting that there’s an ASMR casual game category now
