My personal resolution is to get my lazy butt back in the gym. Winter time is always hard.
What are your new years resolutions and are there any apps you feel could help you achieve them?

To not waste time on resolutions that won’t be fulfilled. 
If you want to change something, just start now. If you feel you can’t change yourself because you are missing the right app for it, then… I don’t know… (I do realize that is not what you were implying)
Obviously that’s not the case. We don’t need apps to change ourselves. It’s all about motivation and will power. However, we are becoming more and more consumed by technology. Some of us may try to avoid having it in our lives and stay clear from phones/apps/tvs etc others choose to embrace it.
There are so many people out there (especially the younger generation) that are addicted to smart devices/apps whatever so who knows? maybe in the future they will need apps to motivate them. Hopefully that will never be the case but you just can’t know.
Also, this is meat to be an entertaining piece and how we can incorporate apps in our yearly resolutions - not a statement that we should relay on them. At the end of the day, the only thing that will get me to wake up at 6:30 am and go to the gym is myself.
So where’s the gaming aspect that would make this on-topic for this forum?

MV10 - you are titled to your own opinion. The reason I take part in this forum is to better understand developers, learn about their needs and try to provide them with information they may find useful, interesting or fun. I didn’t try to sell you my company’s product, i shared an article I wrote to try and spark an interesting discussion. I didn’t link to a product or specific app and disappear off the face of the planet.
Still, I understand your point about spam and this being a community that focuses on games. It doesn’t mean i can’t try to be part of it.

Does google follow link-shortener URLs? I always thought no, so this wouldn’t do anything SEO wise, right?
Just to be clear: I don’t click on bit.ly links posted on forums, so I haven’t even read your article, and can only go on what is written in this thread.
This forum has this fairly unusual rule that even “general” section threads should be gamedev related and there’s no “off-topic” section.
Moderators tend shut down topics that do not fit the theme. If I’m wrong about it, I bet @hippocoder or @zombiegorilla can correct me.
You certainly can be a part of community, if you want, just throw something remotely connected to gamedev. For example, I’m very interested in octtree construcction on GPU at the moment. Business realated stuff, art related stuff, all of this would work as well.
Regardless of what the article says I agree with you that ultimately we are all responsible to motivate ourselves.

I’m really motivated to begin the new year, stop taking contract work and begin in earnest on my first solo game.

Unless what you post relates to game development properly, not fringe, and it’s Unity centric, we will likely remove it. When you first posted a while back, I immediately pegged you for someone deliberately working toward making money from Unity’s users. I let it slide because I would need to see if that’s a mutual benefit or not.
Currently I’m not seeing the mutual benefit so you’ll either stop posting, or start being unity-relevant. But yeah, watching.
