i use unity as a hobbyist, hoping to bring it into my 3d workflow at some point.
i regularly buy assets and actually am happy to supports the creativity of the asset creators. inface i have invested quite a bit at this point.
having returned to unity after a couple of demanding projects i was in for a couple of surprises.
my problem is:
i seem to recall having bought the temporal antialiasing from j3tech.
having not found it in my asset list, i came across this:
as it stands- the asset is just gone and my money with it. there are a couple of other assets deprecated but atleast i can download them.
what is going on here? is it normal for assets to just vanish some day, after less than a year of buying it?
i mean it really makes no sense to buy any if thats the case.
is there some refund policy in place?
i hope someone can bring some light here.
thanks but i since moved onto a new workstation. so im SOL?
is there somewhere to read up on the general policies re: asset removal (not only deprecation)?
well i actually just recently purged my unity projects as they were just test beds for trying out stuff.
never occured to me that at some point, and so soon, i might actually loose “cloud based” data.
the whole point of such stores is that one can access them at will.
also i have never come accross any hints that this might be a possibility.
not sure but i think the asset was around 50€ or upwards.
so…i have no recourse here?
kind of concerned about my investments at this point in general too, if things can just go poof.
I think @JamesArndt1 detailed a pretty smart process for using/backing up assets in a thread discussing this topic. I remember others suggesting (to Unity and users) processes to avoid this situation as well.
I’d be great if Unity could provide a link to last builds of deprecated assets to those who have purchased them, but I don’t know if they are considering this or not and I’d suspect it to only work for future asset deprecation not past.
Consider looking back through the threads about this topic - might be easier to search James post history.
Sorry can’t assist more. Hopefully j3tech can hook you up.
yes i have. there are a few deprecated but not the temporal AA i am positive i bought.
its no biggie since there is the post processing from unity which works fine.
it just got me worried about the principle in general. in any case i presume its best.
i like supporting the asset devs but not a fan of throwing money away. so i suppose some caution is advised.
