I’m creating an asset and I would say it would take me about 1 or 2 months more to get a stable initial version ready. With the release date approaching, I was wondering: when would be an appropriate time to make a forum post on the WIP forum with some screenshots and details about my asset? Note that my some of my asset’s features are not yet ready to be shown while others are close to what they will be in the version that I’ll publish.
There are also lots of features I would like to add, not in the initial version but in future versions of the asset. And I don’t want to get stuck in this cycle where I make the forum post and then people tell me I should add this and that, and then I have to tell them it will be added eventually but not in this version.
When you are ready to have people tell you they want this and they want that, because they will. They will ask for stuff that has little to do with your asset.
On the other hand, you might get some good advice, praise and meet some great people…and drive future sales
So…when you can deal with having your asset on the forum.
I would say whenever you feel ready for it. Since every reaction might cause an emotional reaction on your side, which can or may not influence your development. This can be good or negative, so in a way it would be probably advisable to post something, when you feel secure with whatever you have
Ultimately though, the earlier you post about it, the more people it will likely reach, because of longer exposure of it, before the actual release.
I’d say after you get done with a prototype stage. There’s no sense in showing a prototype of a game (unless that’s what you’re trying to show). Believe it or not, even in games - first impressions are everything. You could gladly show a cube spaceship, but people who remember what it used to be when it’s no longer cube ships, may not even check it out because of what they remembered… So honestly it’s when you think it’s ready to show, which I would think would be some time after a prototype stage - unless of course you’re wanting an opinion from your prototype stuff.
@Teila Let them come! @Farelle I’m self-secure about the asset and its possibilities and I hope other people will see its value! Thanks for the response. @N1warhead_1 It’s not for a game but for a physics development tool. I think that it’s almost ready to show to people and feedback would be very helpful at this early stage I think. Thank you for the reply! @theANMATOR2b That is a really good idea! I could provide a chronological list (roadmap) and then just a list with general personal feature wishes for the asset.
