I’ve created my first Unity game on IOS TorpedoRun. It’s a first attempt and IOS sales were a bit disappointing.
As it’s so easy with Unity to output both a PC standalone, Mac standalone and Web player version it begs the question
of just how exactly do I offer my game to this wider audience?
I have 2 versions of the game, a fully paid one with everything in it and a free one where you buy the
upgrades in game.
So my question is any ideas on where and how I get money for my app from these other platforms. IOS was easy as apple do all the shop stuff.
How much time did you your team spend on playtesting? If people didn’t go for the gameplay and testers weren’t satisfied then that could be a factor. But promoting the title and getting more traffic through releasing a “Lite” version could also help.
It takes a really good game to be sold on the PC nowadays. If it’s good enough, you could go through Steam or another distribution platform. You could try to get it sponsored by ArmorGames or another Flash website (this will require that it is in flash format, may have to wait for Unity 3.5 flash export). Your last option is to sweep in some meager nickels by uploading your game to Kongregate. If it catches on, you might just get a quick hundred bucks.
so are there no Unity games websites where you could sell your game? Currently it feels like you buy unity with the ability to cross to loads of platforms but only one (IOS) to actually make money from it.
If I were to put the game on my own website is there a way to make it pay to play? I’m only talking say 99c.
That has not been my personal experience. Seems like PC games have just as many crappy ones as they always have. Even more perhaps. Fort Zombie anyone?
I think Unity is going to have a game store sooner or later.
