I’m not an artist and while I have free cash to spend on one, I have no idea where I would find an artist of above average caliber. I’ve taken a look at many of the games in the showcase and for the most part they don’t look like programmer art so there must be some great sources of models somewhere
In particular what I want to get is basically sample artwork for a demo game that I want to build to get my feet wet. Moderate model counts so that I can build a little city and some people meshes so I can have them walk around and interact based on some scripts.
You’re welcome to post a job advertisement in the Collaboration forum. Since you have a funded project I’m sure you can find someone.
But since it’s art you’re looking for there’s no reason to limit yourself to the Unity forums: check out various art websites and forums: lots of great artists have never heard about Unity
Being an artist, I’d love to say ‘find and hire an artist’. There are many that do freelance/contract work. Happily I am already employed myself so I will also say there are sites where you can purchase models as well such as TurboSquid.com and 3DCafe.com as well as what was mentioned about posting in the Collaboration forum.
Thanks everyone for your assistance. Back when I used to do this professionally we always had concept artists and the like on staff so it was more of ‘here is the artwork - lets get it to fit in the engine’. Now that I’m rolling my own paid project - I didn’t really know where to go (stupid anti-poaching agreements).
Tell me what it is you are looking for. I would be interested in learning more about your project. I may be interested in helping so I can build a portfolio so long as it doesn’t conflict with the premise of my own project.
Why do you don’t try to create models yourself?
It’s not so difficult… When I started using unity and 3d software, my games were
a lot of sh**, but now they look better.
