I’ve been using Unity for a long time, and I’ve never had a problem installing it or running it. But with version 5, it downloaded, installed and finished, yet I am certain it’s not putting folders and files on my drive that should be there. It absolutely will not start. I have the latest Nvidia drivers, the latest Direct X 9, fully updated XP 64 pro.
I keep seeing references to a folder called ProgramData in the root of the drive, where there is a license file. There is no folder called ProgramData. I have seen references to a Unity folder inside of Local Settings that has some kind of log file. No such folder. The installer completes and gives me a button that says Finish. But when I try to launch, nothing. At first there was a message simply saying that Unity stopped working. After downloading drivers, Direct X, updating out the yin yang, the installation finishes, but when I try to start it, the message just says that Unity “encountered a problem”.
I always have hidden files and folders visible no matter which operating system I am using. Nothing is hidden, it’s just not there. I guess the installer wasn’t completely downloaded, but without a byte count and a folder structure, how would I know? How could the installer complete the installation and offer to finish if it’s not a complete download?
