I would like to use a specific sound effect I’ve heard in various games/shows/etc. I’m fairly certain it come from a sound library from a company that does sound libraries, like Sound Ideas. But I don’t know how to track down what sound it is so I can legally obtain a copy I can use.
The sound I’m looking for is this magic sound used for a teleporter as heard at the 7:35 marker in this video:
Any ideas? Or can someone confirm someone selling a package with a basically-identical copy of that sound?
Thank you for your help.
I’m thinking that’s way too generic to trace to a single library. That’s a very simple little FM synth filter sweep with a delay.
If you’ve heard it in multiple games, I’m thinking that it’s just as likely that they all came up with the same sound independently of each other (maybe with SFXR or something).
No, for a game in the 90’s, I promise you that it is sampled from the same library, not just made the same way. And I’ve heard literally the same sound in cartoons from the 70’s & 80’s; it predates any sound generating program you can mention.
I already have the audio files (and all other content) from that game extracted; I’m not concerned with trying to get my hands on the sound per se.
I’m trying to find who has the RIGHTS, I’m trying to LEGALLY obtain a license to use the sound. (And with that, the original copy of the sound at its native fidelity.)
So it’s maybe a long shot, but have you tried just asking Lee Jackson? He did the sound work on pretty much everything 3D Realms did back then and could probably point you right towards whatever sound libraries they licensed.
That’s a great idea actually. I had sent him a message just a couple weeks ago about something else he had done; I don’t know why I didn’t think of that myself.
Well I’ve sent the message, and now I just gotta wait to see if he remembers. Thank you!
