So as I’ve said many times in many of my topics, I completely suck at programing, and therefore I’m making a fairly simple game. However I can’t test it until I have an animated and movable character. I need it to have the animator already set up, as well as the scripts.
I’ve currently got the premade “Ethan” character in my scene, but I would need to assign the animations in the scripts myself.
It would really help, as I would then only need to make my own model and animations.
Thanks in advance.
Note: This post has been completely edited, and the previous title was “How do I set up a pre-made character?”.
How much would I have to pay for a very simple low poly player model (that means no features at all, just like a 3D stick man), with running, jumping/falling, and landing animations. As well as having the scripts for “wasd” movement, and mouse camera pivot?
First you need to have a detailed scope of what you want.
Then decide whether you want to use existing premade animations from the asset stores (cheaper option) or custom made.
Then go to commercial job offering forum (link attached below) and advertise there.
For simple 3d stick, you might not have to pay alot, but for a decent model it could cost you between $50(no-exclusive rights)-$300(exclusive rights).
If you just need a character that isn’t Ethan, go to www.mixamo.com and download Fuse. It will allow to create free character models, and then you can upload to Mixamo and download animations as well. (For free).
Ok so in case some people that read this topic, didn’t read it before it was changed. I had a problem where it would give me the “animator has not been initialized” error, which was causing an extremely low frame rate. And now that I’ve solved that problem, I’ve noticed that the second I hit play, the animator detects that the character “Ethan” is airborne, therefore doing the falling animation. It even happens when I place him perfectly on the ground.
Can someone please help me with this?
The error was confusing me at first, and I thought I needed to do something more. Hence why I changed the title and description.
Hey Denisowator - I’d like to strongly suggest purchasing Playmaker from the asset store. Currently 65 bucks and will eliminate all the roadblocks you find yourself running into because you are not good at programming.
I’m sure others will suggest you learn to properly code/program and such is the better option - but if you are anything like others around here - programming may never be a tool in your tool-bag you can utilize properly. Just not an option.
I am describing several artists on this forum including myself.
And you will never get a complete character for the same price as Playmaker costs. Even a simple one as a stick man.
Then you can get the animations you need, or some similar to what you want from any number of sources, I’d first check the mocap library in the asset store (free) and use one of the available humanoid characters - ready for animation retargeting. Ethan is usable.
Seems like you would benefit greatly and progress without as much struggle from utilizing a tool that could make you life a lot easier.

Yes - correct - he would not be receiving pro work for a $50 character, not for a ‘decient’ model with animations, even a ‘stick man’ model.
Even for a fast competent artist this would take longer than 2-3 hours and anybody spending 4 or more hours on a model at a set rate of $50 is someone who is still learning the trade. It might be worth it for someone still learning, getting paid to learn. But as @AaronC mentioned - payment isn’t something that happens all the time.
Well, I made a few full characters, so from my experience is like that:
sculpting/modeling/retopo takes at least 1 day or more
uv/texturing can take one day or more
rigging takes at least 1 hour or 2
animations?? how many? You can spend from 1 hour or more for one single animation. For all animations, this can takes days to achieve desired character expressions.
So as you see there is a lot of work to do. I doubt there is someone who can do that in 2-3 hours how you said, and the quality can be questionable for that work, if he do that.
Personally, I don’t open those $50 mails for characters, because I know what’s about and the price don’t justify me to lose that time.
