Where do you get sound effects?

Where do you get sound effects for your game? Ive made a sci fi game, and i want sci fi sound. But i don’t want to get sued for using sound effects that are not mine. I have tried to find sites where i can use sound effects for commerical use, but nothing has interested me.

So where do you get your sound effects for your game? Do you make them yourself or download them from some website?

Or try sfxr a great little retro sfx maker which you can find via the Ludum Dare website.

Audacity is a good sound mixing program.

You begin an endless search for assets.
I believe that all my projects clock at least the same amount of hours searching as actual development.

soundcloud

Audiojungle. Imho best. Paid but there is quality content only, especially when it comes to music.

Sci-fi games are particularly suited to using procedural audio. Take a look at “Sound Generator”. I can’t vouch for the quality of that particular asset as I’ve never used it, but it is an example of the technique.

Bfxr rules (it’s an advanced version of sfxr)!

I buy sounds from http://www.sounddogs.com/

I make them myself with a couple of oscillators, an ADSR filter envelope (Attack Decay Sustain Release) and a low/highpass filter. Any audioproduction tool has something like this.

pay site but it’ been one stop shopping because they have such a large selection http://www.sounddogs.com/

Can be a little slow to scroll through, but there is some good stuff to be found there.

Im surprised nobody mentioned Soundbible yet. Its great for getting sound effects for your projects.

Custom boutique-style sound effects and music for independent developers.

I’m biased, but I’ve been creating sound effects for my amateur games inside Unity itself with my port of sfxr:

FANTASTIC! I love sfxr!

Get a mic, and go bang pots around in the kitchen. That’s how I made music for my imaginary games.

Seriously though, trying to make your own can be amazingly fun if you have the time and money.

Thank you! Something interesting to study. Awesome!
