Where to get in game music from?

Hi All,

I have no musician, I tried to use APM Music but you can’t have an account if you don’t live in the states. Where do you indie’s go to get your music tracks? I like the APM ones on the unity asset store and at $5 to $25 the price is ok. But There must be a bigger choice out there ? Any ideas?

There’s few choices out there, I have personally used premiumbeats.com, audiojungle.net and freesound.org. They’ve always met my needs!

One source with a lot of sound and music. Prices are higher than on the asset store, but still lots better than hiring a musician. The bundles are pretty cheap too.

Thanks Guys, very helpful.

Be very sure to check the license for the music you are purchasing.

Often these royalty free sound/music sites have two licenses, one for use in certain projects.
While another for use in commercial projects that are resold… such as games.

Just always be sure.

Find an unknown band on youtube and ask them. Chance are they will jump at the opportunity to have more exposure. That’s what I have done in the past and now have a fairly decent collection of bands who let me use their music in my games and animations. Granted, I did music videos in exchange for permission for a couple.

Good idea that too Drew
Although caution first. Make sure the band is not signed or involved with any record contract, things could get messy.

Another great site music is neosounds.com

Shockwave is pretty friendly, at least. There are two levels of licensing - one for small volume, one for mass distribution. The price differences aren’t huge, either. The people behind it offer custom work too. The voice actor services are reasonably priced, for instance.

Kevin MacLeod is great. The only problem with any royalty free music (and his especially) is you won’t have any original music in your game. Chances are you’ll hear the exact same piece somewhere else. You don’t get an exclusive soundtrack.

Sometimes you can get MIDI and use custom instruments, at the very least. Maybe even cut portions of it out for menu loops and such. Some licenses allow remixing

Yeah, you’ll need some tools and a collection of instruments. If you have a Mac at least GarageBand can be useful then.

If it was not for Kevin MacLeod, Bomber Cat would not exist.

His tropical music sparked the roots of what became the main theme for Bomber Cat’s first 30 levels.
