Whever I try to change an Animator value in my script, it becomes incredibly laggy [C#]

I’m working on a 2d Character controller, and I’m working with animations. If I just play the game, it works perfectly fine. If I turn on some of the values in the Animator, it works perfectly fine as well. But, when I try to change some of the animator values in my script, it drops to 2fps. Something is obviously wrong. Any ideas?

Just wanted to say I discovered the issue. Apply root motion was checked. Don’t check that.
