Which iPad for development?

Hi All,

Sorry, it might seem like a strange question but I am more of android phone user so the field of iOS tablets is a bit new for me.

I am thinking about investing into iPad for iOS testing and development. There is a number of iPad generations available with very different prices.

Can you advice, which iPad I should get? Should I get the latest one, I believe iPad Air or iPad 2 is enough? What about 3rd or 4th generations?

I understand that in ideal case I should have all of them  But if you could get only one model for development, what would it be?

Thanks for your help!

Get the oldest one that you want to support. If it works on that, in theory the newer ones should work as well, but I’ve seen something about a shader not working on the iPad Air that works on older models. So yeah you should get them all.

Thanks Eric, makes sense. It looks like iPad 2 has the biggest market share at the moment, so does it make sense to make games compatible with iPad 2? I wonder how long it is going to hold leadership.

Are there many games that are already incompatible with iPad 2 ? (screen resolution, CPU)

AFAIK there isn’t any way to drop iPad 2 support with current iTunes restrictions. Some games do run poorly on iPad 2, but they do start and work.

Poor development. Speed should be good on all devices which Apple currently sell. I don’t see why anyone would want people to pay for something that doesn’t run properly.

Your customers are vital, and your lifeblood, you owe it to them to make them happy, it is what they are paying you for. To make them happy.
