Which is good Monetizing, Fixed price or Inapp purchase/Ads

Hi all,
I am working on a mobile turret defense game. I believe it worths 4.99 - 9.99$.
How should I demand this amount from the players?
Should I start with fix price 4.99 version, And then release a free version with in-app purchases and Ads?
Do you have any experience in that area?

Every game and every market is different. You need to experiment with your market and your users and find out.

If there was truly a universal answer, 100% of people would use that answer and then all the people whose job it is to optimize sales would be out of work.

How did you come to the value of 4.99-9.99? That is the first step to being able to help.

Besides being a developer I am also a player and this is how much I would pay for this game. Comparing other games I paid until now.

Why do you believe people will pay $5-$10 for yours instead of play one of the countless free mobile TD games?

I don’t know enough about your game to conclude anything, but $5-$10 for a mobile TD game sounds like a tough sell to me.

It is good to see you value mobile games, and that your are willing to pay for them, but you need to see if the same is true for enough people to make that price viable.

The main way is competitor analysis. Look at a wide range of other games in the same genre, especially those of similar scale, features, and quality (quality is hard to judge objectively with your own work). Look at how they have priced themselves, and how they have sold (Sensor Tower and App Annie are two of the sites to check).

Beware of any close competitor that is marketing heavily at the moment. It could easily soak up the majority of new players in the area, making it very hard to compete without a large marketing budget (and the skill it takes to make that budget effective). In the crowded mobile games market, there are highly likely to be multiple competitors in each genre doing it at any point in time. Do you have anything different about your game to make it stand out? That is the best chance for many.

Sorry if that sounds harsh. I have worked in video games for more than 20 years, and I am continually shocked at how competition is increasing. Selling a game is as much work as making it, which is why I am looking for a publisher (also a lot of work), but you need to be clear about that when doing it yourself.
