Which Laptop to Choose

Hello!
I am going to buy a new laptop. And After much deliberation and with given budget, I narrowed down it to 2 Different Ones. Can you recommend which one would be better for Unity? Thank you in Advance

ASUS TUF Gaming FX505DY 15.6" FHD
Processor - AMD RYZEN R5-3350H
Graphics Card - AMD Radeon RX 560X - 4GB
RAM - DDR4 - 8GB
SSD 512GB
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Asus FX705G 17.3" FHD
Processor - AMD RYZEN R5-3350H
Graphics Card - Geforce GTX 1050 - 3GB
RAM - DDR4 - 8GB
SSD 512GB

depends what you are doing. Do you art at all? If so go with more graphics card.

extra screen space is a big plus in my book.

I just got a Microsoft surface pro with GTX1060. It does pretty good, is fine for 3d modeling and even 3d sculpting if I don’t get too crazy with it. There can be a slight lag sometimes which kind of annoys me but doesn’t prevent work from getting done. Of course no need for surface pro if you don’t do any photoshop.

it seems that many new baking/raytracing features only work in NVIDIA initially, so i’d get that one…

and depending on your budged…

i’d definitely try to take 16gb memory (although you can always upgrade later),
or even better gpu (since Newegg-site has roughly same price(?) for that computer vs. amazon, but better gpu)

I would not buy a new machine for game dev without 16GB of memory.

What budget? What country?

15" screens are kinda horrible for prolonged use. I’d always go for 17" (and additional screen(s) for serious work).

Recently picked up a msi gl75 w a 1660 for under $1100.

Pretty good buy and doesn’t look too horrendously embarrassing in public (which is hard to find in gaming laptops).

You guys are missing the point of laptops, they’re meant to be portable devices you carry around :stuck_out_tongue:

If those were my only options, I would get the one with the larger display and the Nvidia graphics. Then I would add another 8GB of RAM to it, so it had 16GB total.

Agreed. I actually do the bulk of my indie game dev on a 13" laptop display.

Honestly, what do you guys do. Carry a 5-8KG monster around in your backpacks when you’re in the library or chilling at Starbucks, with a colossal power supply? If the lappy is meant for just home use, get a desktop!

To be honest the best approach is likely to have two devices. One for portability and one for presentations. An ultrabook or high-end tablet for the first one, and a gaming laptop for the second.

I do nearly all of my work from a desktop PC with three 27" panels. My current laptop is just for very basic browser tasks. I try not to do any actual work on a laptop. I don’t hang out at the library or Starbucks.

I have a ultra thin ultra, portable i7 laptop which i use when I travel in work. Then I have workstations for prolonged work.
Thats how you do it

For enterprise work at least.

And gamedev and any other serious work

Only if you never go anywhere to show off your project.

Who want to demonstrate on a potato anyway.

An actual professional wanting to make connections with other professionals. If I were into developing VR games for more than giggles I would totally have a gaming laptop plus the Rift S since it doesn’t require setting up lighthouses.

Don’t waste time on that, perfect your youtube and reddit posts instead

Says the hobbyist game developer.
