Hello i am torn between a laptop with more ramm
or a laptop with a better graphics card but less ramm
which is the better choice for game development in unity?
I run unity on a laptop with 8GB of ram and it seems to work just fine.
I would spend money on a SSD drive instead of the graphics card.
I’d go with the second option if I had to pick out of those two for the following reasons:
- 8gb of ram should be enough
- Better graphics is better graphics and you’re making games… come on.
- Has better speeds for CPU
If money is an issue, the first is cheaper and is good enough to be able to handle anything you would likely do in Unity else… optimize it for your laptops spec range haha.
PS just noticed… it’s an i7 and dual core, whaaaatt. I don’t think Ive seen that before though I’ve been out of the game because I bought my computer two years ago and haven’t looked at anything since.
Neither of those laptops. Hewlett Packard is an expensive brand for the hardware they offer. Just as an example the following laptop has a Core i7, 8GB of memory, GTX 940MX GPU, a 1TB HDD and a 256GB SSD, and is cheaper than both of those HP laptops.

By the way the memory is upgradeable. The laptop has two memory slots with one of them filled by default with an 8GB SO-DIMM. You can upgrade to 16GB by inserting a second stick or you can replace both of them with 16GB SO-DIMMs for a total of 32GB.

You can always insert an SSD into a laptop down the road but you can’t do the same for a graphics card.

I think that’s what ill go with.
Might be worth checking out some of the new gtx1050 laptops. Price is pretty good.

Also check specs other than the performance parts. What’s the screen resolution? How heavy/bulky is it? Battery life?

The Acer is 1920 by 1080.
It’s approximately five pounds.
Up to eight hours according to the specifications. None of the reviews mentioned actual battery life though.
