Which NOOK and Kindle to buy for development?

I want to publish in the Nook and Amazon stores but not sure which devices I should get for testing?

I was thinking a Nook Color for for B&N and a Kindle Fire (~$159) for Amazon. Does this sound about right? Hoping I won’t need the more expensive devices.

I have both of those devices, and I think they are the best options for testing. You want to make sure you can run on the older devices.

Hmmm…

Can’t buy the older versions directly from the vendors and people want retail price on used versions. Not sure I should worry about installed bases and just get the low end of the current devices. What do you think?

Instead of the Nook Color maybe I should get the Nook Tablet ($199).

Instead of original Kindle Fire, I could buy the current Kindle Fire ($179 w/o ads).

Thanks for your reply.

OK. I just found a used Nook color for a fair price so that’s out of the way.

I’ll just grab the latest Kindle Fire and hope for the best. Still wish I could find an original kindle fire just for speed testing.

In my experience, the original Kindle Fire is faster than the Nook Color. If your game runs well on the Nook Color, it will likely be fine on the original Kindle Fire. I don’t know that you need both devices, but it is nice to see how the game will look on each device (since they have different UIs - the Nook has a hard back button (the n button), while the Kindle has several menus that you can pop up during a game).

I picked up a used Nook Color and my game runs at about 15 fps. Not great but I’ll try a few things to bring that up.

Also got a new Kindle Fire. Frame rate is fine but touch seems a bit unresponsive. Have to see what I can do.
