Which one is better? Netcode or FishNet

I’ve been using both for a bit now and still couldn’t decide on which one is better. The multiplayer feature I’m looking for is the match making system with tier/rank. I’m also making a game for IOS mobile.

Matchmaking is a paid service from Unity, and for Fishnet you‘d have to go look for a service that works with Fishnet (can‘t say whether Unity‘s services are compatible).

This chart might help: Updated! Free networking solution comparison chart.

That reminds me, I’ve been meaning to add these to the chart. FishNet does support the Unity transport and services. We’re also preferred by Hathora. They have hosting, matchmaking, and a lot more.

As the creator of FishNet that’s where my vote goes! Our product exceeds others in performance, features, and arguably stability. We have a very friendly and helpful community as well.

Hey GM Ser, I am going to use fish-net in my game but I was wondering which matchmaking service would be good for my game my game will have two modes

  1. 100-player battle royal.
  2. 4 teams of 5 players each will add up to 20.

Can you give some suggestions?

Research what matchmaking actually does and you’ll learn it is the least bit concerned about how many players it “matchmakes”.

It’s effectively simply an online list of players. You can make that work with Firebase if you have to. The hard part is optimizing the application that provides the networking of 100 concurrent players.

And before you ask, 99% of whether you can make any network framework work with (insert any number of concurrent players here) is entirely upon your implementation. Because it matters a whole lot more whether you synchronize every player’s name to every other player when just one player changes the name, or just send that name change to everyone else or even forbid name changes during a play session. Plus how often you synchronize things and whether it’s all on the same rate. Things like that all need to be considered by you, profiled and optimized accordingly.
