Which style do you like better?

I’m making a VR SCP game where players get to choose to be different scps or be a guard, researcher, dclass, etc. But I don’t know if I want a dark and scary map, or something more regular.

Dark and scary:

Regular style:

The games main focus will be on multiplayer and how people interact, so what do you think you like better?

Neither. The first one is unreadable because of how dark it is and the second one looks flat because of how even the lighting is. Neither one of these actually look good.

Yeah that’s something I’ve been struggling with. I made a huge map but I suck at decorating things.

Dark doesn’t automatically mean scary. Fear requires some sort of trigger and most people aren’t afraid of the dark simply because it’s dark.

Figure out the environment that you’re trying to mimic and then look up real life images of that environment.

This decision has to go in sync with the gameplay, orherwise it makes little sense.

Aside of decorations, something is not configured quite right with lighting if the bottom is “normal” because the contrast of the image is way too low.
Perhaps the ambient light is too high.

P.s. make sure to get familiar with “postprocessing”. That’s the key for an atmospheric game. Even a low-detail environment can look quite cool if you do it right.
If you can afford it, Beautify 2 or 3 are great assets if you want to go beyond Unity’s included capabilities.

Can’t really use post processing as I’m developing for mobile and it’s a performance killer. Also I think the problem with the bottom is I haven’t baked the lights yet. I’ll check out beautify thanks for the suggestion
