Which version of Unity to use for brand new project starting in beginning of 2020?

I searched for this but did not get a clear answer to my question. As a small team starting on a game project in early 2020, I am confused regarding which version of Unity to start using. We expect to release our product in the second half of this year. Should we use 2020.1 alpha? 2019.3 beta? Latest LTS release?

Based on what we have learned so far, we like URP’s goals (except a lot of assets on the asset store do not work with it even with automated material conversion), we like the new Input System, and we are hoping to do all animations entirely within Unity instead of in Blender.

Any guidance is appreciated. And if I missed any ongoing threads reflecting this, kindly link that.

Alpha and Beta versions tend to have their quirks - with Alpha versions having the most. Avoid using those for production use.

I’d say go with 2019.2.19 and, maybe, later upgrade to 2019.3 when it’s out and suitable?! It’s still unclear when 2020.1 will fully arrive stable and the LTS is probably lagging way behind (featurewise).

Yep, either latest 2018.4.x LTS for better stability, or latest 2019.2.x for latest features. 2019.3 is in its release candidate phase at the tail end of its beta, so doesn’t make you insane or anything for going with it, but even after release it is common for 20XX.X.0 releases to have a good many bugs which only get revealed by getting to a much wider audience than the beta.

Without knowing what you’re working on, I’d probably go with 2019.2.x latest.
