Which version to get...?

Hi, I’m rather new to Unity and an debating which version I really need at this stage of my development. I would like to develop games for iOS systems, so I need one of the following combinations:

  • Unity and Unity iOS $400
  • Unity Pro and Unity iOS Pro $3000

Clearly, the Pro version will set me back an extra $2600, but the question is will I be cheating myself trying to be frugal?

I looked at the version comparisons in the Unity store and can see there is a clear difference, but I’m not skilled enough at this point to know whether I will need the features listed in the Pro that are absent in the Free version.

In layman’s terms, what will I not be able to do without the Pro version that would benefit me as a beginner?

I do plan to purchase the Pro set as soon as I advance more (maybe for Christmas), but my question is based on wondering whether I would benefit more having the Pro version from the start, or can I use the Free version with little detrimental effect on my learning curve.

You experience and suggestions in this area would greatly be appreciated.

Get the $400 and start your game, potentially even release it with it and get the Pro license later on as you need it, be it before or after release. You can always add or even just enable the features depending on the type of feature we are talking abouth ere.
Free has no impact on your learning at all, the differences between basic and pro are ‘additional features’, Unity does not cut productivity features from the basic licenses.

This naturally is assuming that you aren’t buying it as a legal entity. Cause then this is only legal to do if you have a yearly gross revenue of $100k and less, otherwise you are required to get and use Pro anyway
