Hi,
Dear Unity Team,
May I ask you something who the one who is very intelligent, who thought that “It would be a great idea to combine 2D and 3D world together in the scene” which makes our workflow miserable.
UI is really an “Interface” which has no reasonable reason to be in the 3D part of the game.
It would be much much easier to have UI Tab like for example Animator tab which is completely independent from the 3D part of the game. I don’t know Unreal much but as far as I see as Unreal’s Independent UI system. And it could have its own abilities to scale up or down to screen resolutions. (yeah I know the current system also has good abilities but believe me it could have much more automated approaches which makes our lives easier).
Please consider this in the future Unity releases
I don’t know how you’re editing your scenes, but all my UI exist in their own scenes that get additively loaded. Dunno what’s so miserable about that.

Editing itself is miserable. Go to that giant UI part go back to 3d part etc.
there is a new improved ui system they are working on with a dedicated window to build your user interface layout. that should be ready for 2021.2 version or maybe 2022 version,
the UI workflow as it is now is an old feature dating to the beginning of the software so it is obviously outdated
Maybe not in your game. Nothing wrong with a 3D interface within the game world and Unity’s solution supports this - eg. a Unity ‘UI’ in a virtual game monitor.
