Why are there no first person art assets?

This has really gotten me confounded. If you go to the asset store right right now there are virtually no first person art assets. You know, arms and animations and what-not. Seriously though, look that up. Nothing. Zilch. Big old goose egg.

I’m just saying, if I were an artist I would hope on that monopoly real fast. (*cough-cough)

So what gives? Why aren’t there any FP art assets?!

Artist generally don’t/can’t animate. Probably main reason as they need someone else to animate and rig for them.

So do people make their own now or use a full character & move the camera Just in front of its head?

??!!?? Pure fallacy. Noobs may be falling into the gaming space but any competent technical artist knows how to rig and animate.

But who’s going to sculpt the arms and model the weapons, uv unwrap and texture them all. I know there are many jack of all trades people but generally people specialize in a certain area. Here be making the art, not animating it.
Although I will give that people should know some basics of rigging and animation so their mesh/model will be ready for someone to animate it,

As @ippdev said, really only noobs. In that case the work would probably be pretty weak in the first place.

Certainly there is specialization, I wouldn’t expect my UX lead to be able to build a backend server/platform (though he actually can). But a modeler better be able to rig and animate. It’s part of the broader skill set of 3d Artist. In fact not understanding rigging and animation would make a crappy modeler, since models will have to eventually be rigged and animated. The model needs to built for that purpose.

My guess is that most fps kits come with arms and weapons, people relying on kits and assets from the store don’t care or require anything beyond that.

All tech artists I’ve met can Model / Sculpt / UV Unwrap / Create shaders and Animate. Sure you also have VFX specialists who work more on the side of advanced particles, destruction meshes and tracking (cut scenes)… But a lot of technical artists can do that as well, they also generally are great at level design…

Although tech artists generally cost more to employ, so I set them towards the hardest tasks I can find.

Good question though, maybe some artists can take advantage of that gap :)…

More often than not, good TA’s live for this kind of shit. Boredom sets in quickly if I don’t have at least a couple of 'impossible ’ tasks in my queue. :wink:

There are at least 2 dozens of these on asset store, not to mention some of the FPS game kits comes with it. In fact a lot of weapon packs comes with it too!

You must not have search or even look at Asset Store at all. You literally have to be blind to not see those.

Even an anti-artist like me can rig and weight paint with blender well enough get things moving without too many tears.

Well damn! I thought I did look. I don’t know how I missed all of these. I’m glad to see that I was wrong.

I know right!? I would pay handsomely for a bundle of FPS Fantasy Animations.

Melee weapons/bows and such.

1H/2H Swords/Blunt Spears, Staves, Bows, etc.

Edit: There seems to be plenty of FPS Shooter models/resources but no fantasy ones.

Well the post is still valid because there is not many FPS resources. There are arms yes, and guns, but we need animations as well. Mostly we need Skyrim-esque styled resources. Fantasy with swords/ bows/ magic/ etc.

There is lot of animation packs you can use with humanoid compatible rigs.
