But this is only being offered to new customers…
Is it just me that thinks this is slightly unfair, why can’t long time customers be eligible for this nice sounding deal also? I sent a email to Unity but have not heard back at all yet.
Similar offers with different perks happen all the time from almost every company to get more new customers so its nothing new or even unfair. Anyways:
“For current Unity Plus and Pro subscribers, we are pleased to announce that starting April 1, 2017 we will be able to offer you the Accelerator Pack for $75 — a significant discount of 60% off the retail price of these assets. To claim your Accelerator Pack at this special discounted price, simply contact us at get@unity3d.com. Inquiries will be processed starting April 1st in the order they are received.”
Thanks for your reply, I understand, it is to attract new customers.
But I still ask, what is the difference between a new and existing customers? Why should this be differentiated?
It would be nice if offers like this were more like Games with Gold. But I understand if that is just not possible financially. My Plus subscription ends in a couple of months. I may just unsubscribe until I wait for some Asset Pack offer that appears to me. My current project is in AGK2 using C++ so it won’t effect make a difference to just wait for another asset pack offer to be available.
I realize they are offering a discount to current subscribers but since I use Unity for 2D, I would only have interest in PlayMaker. I develop in C# for a living so it is not a neccesity but it does look pretty cool.
Because it’s business. In the case of the 3 assets they are still probably paying for the asset authors. Giving the pack for free to all existing customers would defeat the purpose of the whole campaign and would turn into negative revenue. It could also devalue the whole “special, time limited, buy now” offer and even possibly future campaigns in the eyes of new customers if everyone gets them anyways.
Some people already got their plus or pro subscription with a discount or with other benefits from other marketing campaigns. Now the deal changed again and new users get this pack for “free” but pay the regular monthly subscription cost. Old users are offered a chance to get the pack with a discount in case they want it. In the next 6 months there will probably be another campaign with a different offer.
Thanks for the info, I understand your point, it’s all about the money?
I am a paying customer who never got to take part in one these kind of deals/offers, when I see these but cannot get the benefit I feel a bit left out (get the violins out), who wouldn’t want the deal when it seems like something useful?
I like to see everyone be catered for, not just new customers, that’s all, keep all customers happy.
It’s a marketing ploy. Pretty much every company out there offers better deals to new customers then to existing customers.
The offer is very unlikely to make an existing subscriber unsubscribe. But it will probably get a few fence sitters to subscribe.
And if it bothers you, remember that for existing subscribers Unity is still holding up their end of the contract. Unity deciding to be generous to someone else doesn’t actually make existing customers worse off.
I’m not really sure what you mean by this yet, can you explain a bit more perhaps?
I am a very happy customer, I love Unity and make use it, I was just posting this to see what others think/voice my opinion,
Oh ok, I did not realize and I certainly do not want tpo be part of that group of people I just noticed this and thought of it seemed unfair, why differentiate between customers… anyway no big deal. I’m still a happy customer as I get to make games I can dream of, so that is the best of all.
