Why can't we download instead of opening files in our Web Browser?

I need to download some demo projects (Ex.: Angry Bots), but there’s no download available on the Asset Store’s website, only the option to open in Unity3D. O_o I don’t have Unity3D installed on all the computers I use.

Why can’t we simply download a single file and be done? I don’t want top try to open projects and save after… Let us choose how to manage our assets, please. This is very frustrating and a waste of time.

EDIT: I notice it applies to the whole Asset Store???

I’m 100% certain I’m not the only one wondering why we can’t download single zip/package files from the website.

Thanks.

Unity projects are provided for Unity users, and are only useful if you have Unity installed. So you open the Asset Store window in Unity and click the little down icon next to the Download button. In your case, you want “Download Only” which will download a single .unitypackage file that you’re looking for.

You don’t need to import it into a project, or save after - it will just download it to the C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Unity\Asset Store directory.

Unity package files are like zip files. I don’t know how it gets simpler. Are you talking about executable examples or sources?

That’s EXACTLY what I want: how did you manage to download a file? All I have is the option to “Open in Unity”.

I’m talking about the project file (source if you prefer), not the executable.

No, it is not possible to start a download from Unity Asset Store Website directly from your web browser, without Unity itself installed on your computer.

However there is a workaround wich lets you download the asset without unity, and using any browser or download manager of your preference. See this question for further details.

I wish there was a good answer here as to why this can’t be done. The fact that this basic functionality isn’t available in the asset store is why I prefer purchasing my assets from other places.
