why do my asset updates break the asset in a current proj in unity 5.X

I keep seeing this issue and it’s really starting to annoy.

When an asset is updated if I put the update over a current project… something will break in the asset after updating it almost every time. I never used to have this problem at all in older versions of unity, and it’s a really inconvenient one. The fix is usually delete everything related to it (losing all your custom settings for it) then install the update like it’s the first time.

Am I missing something? Why are the updates so finicky now?

Do you have all scenes closed before updating?

Scene is usually open. That can mess it up? Never been a problem in the past, but I’ll try doing without a scene open.
