Why do my identical game builds just not work sometimes?

This has been a thing for a while but I really need to start investigating now. It keeps happening. This is a build that uses steam, but the game isn’t reaching any networking yet. Yes I have the right appid.

I’m making game builds and uploading the folder to Google drive for my buddies to test. Probably 1/3 of the time, the build just doesn’t start for someone when they click the exe. They have to try once or twice more before it finally loads.

For about 1/3 of THOSE cases, the game will never launch. It usually gets stuck loading the bootstrapper scene, it opens the game window but never does anything. I have to make a new build (without changing anything at all) and upload that and then the new identical one works for them.

It never has ever happened to me, so maybe it’s something with Google drive? Is there anything I can investigate for this? There’s no logs that I know of, no indicators, and it’s clearly nothing actually valid because it will work for everyone else. I’m just at a loss as to where to start.

Are they trying to run it… off of the google drive? If so, they should be downloading a local copy.
