Why does collapsing sprite renderer make objects not draggable in scene view?

Actually… while I’m working on my custom gizmos, I believe it has to do more with this:

“This function does not get called if the component is collapsed in the inspector.”

So it is a part of the API, and since they’re using their own component logic for those… the base API says “no gizmos for you” while the component is collapsed.
