Why does converting a .tga to .png make textures darker (HDRP only)

I have this tool on the assetstore which works well in normal rendering:

However I am finding that when I use it on HDRP materials it makes them considerably darker and worse looking (as opposed to identical as they should be, since it just converts from .tga to .png). Anyone have any idea why this is ?

Are you using sRGB textures or linear?

I actually don’t know, how do I check? I take any tga found convert to png, maybe I need something else in this process when working with HDRP.

There is a tickbox “sRGB” in the texture inspector.

It seems unticking that fixes it! Thanks a lot!..

Actually it makes them a bit brighter, but doesnt fix them to look identical as original .tgas unfortunately, must be something weird going on.

How did you verify the color difference?

I just screenshotted unity showing original assets, then ran the script and screenshotted them after - then compared by eye. They seem much darker even with sRGB unticked still darker. Almost like there’s shadows on them that werent there before.Though the albedos themselves looked the same in unity preview, very weird.
