Hey.
I was just wondering, why does Unity3D 3.1 not support hardware PhysX yet ?
Will Unity3D support it in the near future ?
There’ve been some discussions on this subject in the past. Not sure how relevant the info is, but here is a fairly recent thread on the topic.
Cause ATI can’t use it, Intel can’t use it, OSX can’t use it, iOS can’t use it, android can’t use it and on windows you can’t use it if you use the static library, you need to use the DLL based one which requires the physx driver install to work even on the webplayer, a requirement that holds for all not just nvidia, which to install requires admin rights unlike the webplayer plugin, and that for something that otherwise would require a 3mb download for the webplayer plugin and a support 25-35% of the userbase.
it would definitely kill any possibility to get users to install it at all.
Not exactly tempting especially if there is not much which can make use of it, at the time not even the multithreading nature of PhysX is being supported so unsure if HW acceleration could even be used at all technically.
Shit.
Nice post dreamora. My thoughts on physx in general, in fact.
