Why doesn't Mac deployment have a sub category on the forum?

Title says it all. Where do you post Mac target questions?

In Editor & General Support, same as Windows questions. Note that the Windows platform category is for WP8 and Windows Store only, which is a separate publishing platform, not general Windows. Also note that the iOS category is for iOS publishing only, which is very different from Mac publishing.

Good question then. Is there any reason desktop platforms don’t have an area? There are desktop-specific questions just like there are other platform specific questions.

It’s probably because the Mac as a target build platform doesn’t receive much love at unity. If you look at the platform subcategories on the forum they match the unity build targets with one glaring omission, the OS X one.

I do know IOS is very different from Mac publishing but it’s a much better fit than where you suggested it goes. They both use Xcode tool chain for a starters, with profiles, keys, ITC, .plists etc all in common. Also someone publishing to IOS is much more likely to have a bit of experience on Mac publishing. Still it should have it’s own sub forum under platforms.

No, because you left out Windows, which also does not have a separate category, nor does Linux. The desktop platforms are I suppose considered “standard” without enough need for a special category. Maybe by now there should be, but there isn’t, so Editor & General Support it is. The iOS category is not appropriate and OS X topics there will be moved.

You’ve got this thing called “Windows” that apparently doesn’t cover all of “Windows”, which is pretty misleading despite the smaller words underneath it. I’d suggest calling it “Windows Store” or something, since that’s the target actually being referred to.

But yeah, I understand why desktop platforms aren’t there, since the “Platforms” area grew organically as new, non-desktop platforms were added.

If I was Grand Forum Emperor, I would change it to “Windows Store” for sure. (But I’d also change the forum font to Comic Sans just to mess with everyone, so overall it’s probably just as well.)

I could create a million sub sections for everything but that would be ridiculous, there is no need for it.

I would change it to Windows Store because it makes sense but because it has Windows Phone 8 and Windows Store Apps in there my overlords say no. (I know…)
