Why is the lightmapper in Unity not working for me

It only bakes the tree shadows into the terrain, but it doesn’t bake the objects, I have all my models set as static, and I checked the “generate lightmap uvs” in the fbx importer, I then click on my terrain, and hit bake selected, it only bakes the trees, what am i missing?

it seems I have to select the objects themselves and hit bake selected in order for it to work
