Why Is The Painter Not Detailed

Hi, I have created a default Gaia terrain and added roads.

The problem is that if I want to add detail around the roads the painting tool is just not detailed enough.
Instead I get large pixel squares which make painting details impossible.

I presume that this is something to do with resolutions but dont know how to correct the issue or even if its possible.

The resolution settings are as follows:

The best I can manage to paint is as the e image below which in short just isnt good enough to paint details.

Am I missing something.

Many thanks.

I guess, if you ask that question in the Gaia support thread, you might get an answer faster:

I didn’t think it was Gaia at fault? I thought it was a general terrain/resolution thing.

It seems I have to make the Base Texture Resolution 2048 which is not practical at all. When you increase the size of the terrain the pixels gets bigger making the unity unusable for large maps.

Saying that it seems people are not having the same issue?

I have set the resolution to 2048 and the terrains below illustrate better what the issue is:

500x500 Terrain - OK/ish

And using a 2000x2000 terrain the detail is impossible.

How can unity have such a great flaw?

More to the point what is the way around this?

Any assistance appreciated. Thanks.
