Why is there no option to change default project location after 5+ years of people asking?

Am I missing it? Is there seriously still no built-in method of permanently changing the default project location so that all new projects automatically choose that as a storage location?

People have been using smaller SSDs for boot drives for what? a decade, perhaps a bit under? I also found examples of p__eople asking this same question__ around six years ago.

It defaults to ‘my documents’ but it’s not even actually obedient of that fact. For example on my system, i moved my libraries structure to another drive. so the ‘documents’ images’ and other library folders are actually on a much larger ‘D’ drive . Yet when I installed unity recently, it shoves everything into c:\users\username\mydocuments or 'documents (whatever it’s name over there is).

Meanwhile other software is obedient of the library location and places folders and assets in the proper location.

I understand I can change this in the registry, is that still the only way to do it? Why the hell isn’t it an option during set up? Are triple A studios piling their millions of dollars worth of assets and source into ‘my documents’ on the C drive?

I summarize my question as: “What in the actual hell?”

Once you make a project somewhere else, I believe it then defaults to that place. And it generally asks you where to put anything. So I’m not sure what you’re talking about, but maybe I’m misunderstanding something.

Agree with the above post. I’ve always stored my projects on a dedicated HD.

A lot of programs I use also do this. It is somewhat annoying. I have a file on my desktop, open it up, then choose “Save As…”, and the programs automatically assumes I want to save it in “My Documents”, rather than the path the file was opened up from. About 90% of the programs I use do this.
