I take a look at collaboration threads and see that many are added that are about developing horror fps, survival fps, zombie fps etc. Why so many of that kind? It seems people don’t have imagination, do they?
Not just games, movies too, zombies and vampires.
What’s up with that?
at least its better than mmorpg
I’m not really critcizing anyone’s game just not sure why there is such interest in entertainment with zombies and vampires these days.
But not as good as a zombie survival horror fps mmorpg
So? What’s wrong with it. There are countless “Realistic” shooters, yet, people continually play them, with no intention of stopping. They buy/play the sequel. The sequel of the sequel. etc. generalizing people who have an ambition to make a zombie game as “no-imagination” people, is just having tunnel vision to the fact that most games nowadays are just rips of other ones. The graphics and story line are the only thing that differ the game from another in the same category.
They are just making games wich should prepare you for 21.12.2012
Well we have had enough of them. Why don’t they just make something unique… Yeah, it might be difficult but at least they should try…
Perhaps it’s because of the easy A.I ^^?
I think a game modeled on a movie like ‘Hot Fuzz’ would be a lot funnier
I think because it’s an easy project to start with. The AI is simple.
I am, but I do want to add scarier and more agile monsters.
So don’t buy any more of them? I’ll never understand the notion that “I am no longer interested in a concept, therefor no one should continue to invest time or money into said concept.”
Zombie games, MMORPG’s in a fantasy setting, WWII FPS titles - they aren’t going anywhere any time soon. Just because some companies are continuing along that trend does not mean there are not other companies trying new ideas. So you have had your fill of Zombie Games, that’s cool - look into something else for now.
Personally, I think zombie games are really a forum that has yet to really discover itself - there is tons of room for new ideas and growth within the zombie package still. Vampire games are even miles and miles further in the “untapped potential” camp.
A genre or concept is only “overdone” until someone comes along with a title that redefines it in a new and interesting way that fans of the genre simply cannot live without. Personally, I’ve never gotten into the zombie games myself - I think literally the only one I’ve played was Left 4 Dead and I only got a few hours into it.
As I said before, all games are just copies of each other, with different graphics. The AI in zombie games doesn’t have to be simple… Look at Black Ops zombies. They made complex zombie AI. Stop generalizing zombie games.
Well my team are making a free roam, survival horror, fps rpg, and I have been told that our game ideas are in fact very unique, it’s fps games and the dreaded mmo that are over popular in this day and age
A lot of people want a true survival, something the game industry has never provided. Fort Zombie could have come close with 2 months of extra development, but instead it was one of the worst games I have ever played - many games in alpha played ran better than it. (Fact: I was banned 3 times from the forum for ‘being a pirate’. Turns out I was one of many who couldn’t play our legit game because they forgot to include a library on installation!)
A lot of zombie games seem to start out as this dream idea, than get muddled down with modern console trends (dead island is an example).
Zombies provide an easy enemy and a very unique one. They’re stupid, yet dangerous. You can outsmart them, but there is no victory. I can’t think of any other enemy who’s sole intent is to kill you, and work it into a realistic setting. Robots maybe but they are smart and hard to kill.
There is one game which simulates survival .

Because none of them seem to do it right…
Until Survivor Zero releases that is. (I’m on the team, but hey!).
The zombie apocalypse is about survival, not ‘action’ in the traditional sense.
What i would like to see is more game like assassins creed since it has great art style but yet the game play is perfect and everything just flows and yet its very different from all the other games. So i say we should all help Janpec to make that kind of game in unity3d!
made by him
Zeitgeist probably
Wow i am impressed Djdog:smile:
Thanks for kind words.
Now on other hand i wanted to add something to this theme. Why are zombie games so popular and why are so many out there it is very simple to guess. First reason is becouse development is much easier than for most other AAA games, you have guaratneed player base, game can be several released with map packs which allows you to develop game longer and few other reasons. If you think for zombie game like call of duty zombies you need only 5 characters to make full game! A small ammount of props for maybe 4 or 5 maps and that is is. Game is ready. Why is activision abandoming zombies is beyond me. Its known that this studio is now all about money, and zombies in Cod Waw were main reason to keep sales going. So if you ask me zombies are easiest AAA game to make and you have guaranteed succees if you make it right.
