Why wont unity add components with Start() ?

I have this code that works in Update(), but does nothing in Start() nor Awake()

	void Start ()
	{
			foreach(Camera c in multicam)
			{
				DOFS = c.gameObject.AddComponent<DepthOfFieldScatter>();
				DOFS.focalTransform = target.transform;
				DOFS.aperture = 1.8f;
			}

If multicam is initialized and set in a start or awake function than it may be empty. Update is called after all start and awake functions so it is most likely set at that poitn. This seems to be a loading issue with your scripts, you are relying on one of your scripts loading before another but this is not happening.
