Wich genre to begin with game development?

Hi community.

I wanted to ask, cause i can’t decide wich genre of game i want to begin with, wich genre without knowing scripting, modeling… you will recommend to start?

I want to develop a MMORPG in a future, if not in other life :(. Or atleast try it. But i’m sure is the hardest option so i prefer to leave that project (including RPG genre) for the last one and begin with others.

Software i use:

  • Unity
  • Blender
  • Gimp

If you let me i will mention some genres i like the most but if there is others that are easier or better for start they will be welcome:

  • Horror adventure (Puzzle solving, picking objects…)
  • RTS
  • FPS
  • Platformer

Thanks in advance!

How will you develop game without knowing “scripting”!!!:o:o
Its not that hard to learn scripting.

Pong!

MMO RPG!!!

HAHA, noooooo, not that. Start with a platformer where you are to only get from point A to B, that’s it. Then you can build from there.

Playmaker.

What the heck is Playmaker?

It’s a visual scripting system.

Well i will try to find info, guides, tutorials about scripting.

Pong? No, no, i don’t want to take a specific game for reference i need a genre.

You mean like kismet in UDK,a lot of node based things? Oh boy,I seemed to have an allergy towards this kind of tool.

@Necrovan,I think you will be fine to play around some character controller scripts and head for a platforming game.

Okey then i will start with a platformer. Thanks all for answering

That will not help you in the least. Genre has NO reference to the learning curve of a individual and/or group. Take a specific game and try to re-create it in unity first.

I started with an FPS as there is a TON of reference material while also having a lot of room for improvement.
